Do you sometimes wonder if it is worthwhile serving God? The people in the time of Malachi the prophet did. Look at what they said:
“You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What do we gain by carrying out His requirements. But now we call the arrogant blessed.
Certainly the evil doers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.'”
It is easy to slip into this kind of thinking, especially when we see others who live contrary to God’s Word, being blessed. Following God’s way is not always easy, but it is worthwhile, and this is the message Malachi wants us to understand.
God had heard those who complained, but He had also heard those who honored Him. He did then, and He does now! Not only that,He records what we say. Perhaps you are struggling in your finances, or in a relationship, but you say to a friend, “I will still trust the Lord.” The Lord is listening. I can imagine Him saying to an angel, “Did you hear what my son/daughter said? Quick write that down.” This is the picture Malachi describes, when he writes, “Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard … a scroll of remembrance was written …”
These are the ones that God calls His treasured possession – the ones who declare their trust in Him, despite the situation. The Lord says that these ones are His. “They are mine”, says the Lord Almighty. Are you included among those ones?
