Most of us don’t like waiting! That is particularly true for those of us who live in cities! However in the Word of God it says, ‘Blessed are all who wait for him’ and it also tells us that those who wait for the Lord will not be disappointed.
We are going to look at a wonderful scripture in Isaiah 40:28-31. It reads, “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall: but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
The word ‘wait’ in these verses also means to hope, to trust, to look to or to wait expectantly. God promises that when we wait on him our strength will be renewed. Is that your need right now? We all have times when we become weary and weak, not just physically, but spiritually. If you look at these verses again it tells us that even youths grow tired. This is speaking of teenagers, who are strong and energetic. However God knows that we will become tired and so he assures us, ‘even youths grow tired’.
What makes us weak and weary? Sometimes it is just the busyness of life! Or it may be a situation in our family that drains us. Perhaps we are facing a physical issue that is affecting our spiritual life. Through Isaiah the Lord has told us that even youths grow tired, but then he goes on and adds, ‘and young men stumble and fall’. This is referring to those in their twenties, in the prime of their lives. Even they can fall over.
This is a comfort to us. God knows ‘we are but dust’. He doesn’t condemn us, but instead gives us hope and shows us how we can renew our strength.
