Purpose in Life – 2

Your life has purpose!  Do you remember as a child having many different ideas of what you wanted to do when you grew up?  Perhaps those ideas kept changing!  Within each of us though, is a desire to know what we have been created for – our purpose.

Often God gives us glimpses into this long before it happens.  Let’s look at the life of Abraham.
God told Abraham he would become a great nation and that all nations would be blessed through him.  Now it is easy for us to understand what God meant as we look back, but it must have been difficult for Abraham.  How was that going to happen?  He didn’t even have children!  However Abraham believed God – if God said it, he would do it.  For some of us, it is easy to believe that God has a purpose for others, but he wants us to know that he does for us too.

Maybe you have made some wrong decisions or feel guilty about things you have done.  Or perhaps you are disappointed with what has happened in your life and struggle to believe you still have a purpose.  That was the experience of the people of Israel in the time of Jeremiah.  They were taken as prisoners of war into a country called Babylon.  Their hopes were shattered.  What was their destiny now?  Yet God is gracious and well able to restore his people if they call out to him.  Look at what he said to them in Jeremiah 29:11-12,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you,  plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

Wherever you are, or whatever has happened to you, if you will turn to Jesus and put your trust in him, he will listen to your cry.  There is hope!  You do have a purpose!
