Questions!

Bible Reading:  John 6:60-71
(A series on the Gospel of John – 16)

Questions?  Children ask them all the time.  Most adults have them too.  Some things we read in our Bibles don’t make sense, and there are things that happen in our lives we don’t understand.  Why did that happen, we ask, or what does this mean?

Jesus is teaching in Capernaum.  No doubt most of those listening had eaten the bread and fish that had been multiplied. When Jesus said he is the Bread of Life though, they didn’t understand.  What did he mean?  They are offended with his teaching.
People are no different today.  Not everything Jesus says is popular.  In fact some things don’t make sense to us either, at least to our natural minds.  And what about those things that happen in people’s lives?  How can a God of love allow that to happen, we ask.

“Do you want to leave too,” Jesus asks his disciples.  Peter’s words ring out!  These same words have echoed in my heart when I have had unanswered questions.  “Lord, who should we go to?” Peter says, “You have the words of eternal life.  We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Perhaps you are struggling right now, and wondering if it is worthwhile to still be a Christian.  Don’t turn away as many did that day when Jesus was teaching.  Who will you go to?  There is only one who has words that give life, words that are true and powerful.  That one is Jesus, the Holy One of God.  Keep trusting and hold on.  He is with you, and will bring you through.
